British Horse Society Horse Owners Certificates
Designed for people owning horses, or considering buying one. Theory and practical work relating to the care of horses, with written examination at end of course, sent off to British Horse Society for moderation. 3 hours per week, 10 week courses. Cost £120, payable at start of course. Fee includes admin fee, all training and British Horse Society examination fee.
NVQ
Designed for people intending to go into the horse industry as a career. Theory and practical work, plus work experience at weekend to incorporate doing jobs in industry time, working as a team member on a busy yard, dealing with clients and health & safety issues. There is a fair amount of work at home to build up a folder of assignments, and assessments & photographic evidence are done along the way to provide evidence of varied tasks. 6½ hours per week, over an academic year September to July. Students with prior experience can achieve early. Horse Care training is funded by Hereford College of Technology, with administration fee of £15 payable to Wits End Stables Ltd at the start of the course. Riding can also be taken as an option, with a reduced cost student lesson fee payable to Wits End Stables Ltd on a weekly basis.
BHS Exams
These are not funded by the College, but by doing an NVQ course here (which we train to above the level), we will guide you through the course as to when you will be ready to take your BHS exam and train accordingly. Time and cost is therefore same as above, plus BHS Membership and Examination fees payable to the British Horse Society.
National Cerificate
Designed for people intending to go into the horse industry as a career. Theory, practical and work experience sessions incorporated the same as described above for NVQ, but more depth and research involved for assignments. 10 hours per week, over an academic year September to July. Horse Care training funded by Hereford College of Technology, with administration fee of £15 payable to Wits End Stables Ltd at the start of the course. Riding is part of the syllabus, with a reduced cost student lesson fee payable to Wits End Stables Ltd on a weekly basis.
